Main duties and responsibilities
Architecture is a cornerstone of the School of Creative Arts and the Department of Architecture and Design at the University of Hertfordshire. Given the central role of the subject the School is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in History and Theory of Architecture to provide high quality teaching, research and module leadership within undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Architecture and Interior Architecture and Design. They will also be actively involved in the PSRBs accreditation process for existing programs and in the development and implementation of future programmes. Furthermore, they will be expected to actively engage and contribute to the Architecture+ Research group and other research groups within the University.
The postholder will be a member of the School of Creative Arts of the University and will be expected to take an active role in fulfilling the strategic objectives of the University and School, including recruitment, improving student experience, eradicating the BAME award gap, and promoting an inclusive creative culture. The postholder will uphold the professional ethos of the University and share in the corporate responsibility for the academic wellbeing of all students.
Skills and experience required
The post holder will have relevant teaching experience at HE level in Architecture-related programmes, with a focus on History and Theory in Architecture-related disciplines encompassing a broad spectrum from the scale of individual buildings to entire communities and cities, including the application of speculative theoretical discourse. The postholder will have an understanding of the discipline beyond the Western canon, ensuring a balanced representation in terms of gender, race, and cultural context.
Given the design-oriented nature of Architectural disciplines, the postholder must possess an understanding of design processes and the ability to mentor small groups in design studio modules.
Qualifications required
A minimum of a Master degree or equivalent Level 7 qualification in Architecture related disciplines, Fellowship of Advance HE (formerly the Higher Education Academy) or equivalent
