The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Sussex invites applications for the position of Lecturer B (T&S) in Physics. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise and teaching experience in one or more of the following areas  

  • Sussex International Summer School (Physics)
  • Foundation year / introductory physics

The successful candidate will be an independent, enthusiastic, and committed academic with a top teaching track record who is a team player and would enjoy working in a young, dynamic and growing department. 

As part of the interview process, short-listed candidates will be required to give a teaching presentation of a given topic. The identity of such short-listed candidates will therefore be known to those who attend the presentation, and the names of short-listed candidates will have been available to members of the Department of Physics and Astronomy. However, applicants may specify at the time of applying that their application should remain confidential throughout the appointing process. The Department offers BSc and MPhys courses in Physics (also with minors), a Foundation Year, and several MSc courses, covering all research directions of the Department. The Department will also be running an International Summer School in June to August 2024.

In the 2021 research excellence framework (REF), 95.3% per cent of our research outputs were classified as world-leading (4*) or internationally excellent (3*). In this exercise our research environment was rated to be 7th in the UK.  

Research in Physics and Astronomy at Sussex is grouped into Atomic and Molecular Physics, Astronomy, Experimental Particle Physics, Material Physics and Theoretical Particle Physics.
