This role is part of a joint project (xDEA) between the University of Salford and the University of Nottingham. Its focus is to develop new tools for the vibro-acoustic simulation of structures in the mid-to-high frequency range. It will focus on developing new experimental methods for characterizing the wave scattering properties of junctions and vibration sources that integrate with Dynamical Energy Analysis (DEA) - a state-of-the-art mesh-based simulation tool. The work undertaken at Salford will focus primarily on developing new experimental techniques, whilst the work at Nottingham will focus on more numerical aspects. The two groups will work closely together throughout the duration of the project.

About the School or Department
The University of Salford has been undertaking research in acoustics and vibration for over 60 years. Our Acoustics Laboratories are a world-renowned facility supporting the world class research in the Acoustics Research Centre (ARC). Its facilities are complemented by extensive experimental hardware, including the wide range of vibro-acoustic sensors and multi-channel acquisition systems required by this project. The group has an impressive track record in delivering impact through research, including successful EPSRC, KTP and industry funded projects. The acoustic impact case study for UoA Engineering in the 2021 REF was noted in the narrative feedback as having “outstanding impact demonstrated.” For decades the ARC has led the development of measurement methods and best practice, enshrined in international standards (e.g., ISO 20270:2019) and adopted by both government and industry.
