LSE is committed to building a diverse, equitable and truly inclusive university

This is a fixed-term, full-time appointment for 1 year (maternity cover)

We will consider any requests from job applicants to work flexibly on a part-time basis (0.6 FTE or 0.8 FTE).

LSE’s Communication Division leads and coordinates internal and external communications for the School and offers communication advice, training and support. The Head of Product leads the division’s Product Team, which is closely aligned with the division’s Digital Communications team. This role will line manage a Digital Product Lead (in post) and provide digital community of practice leadership alongside the Head of Digital Communications.

The Product Team currently owns development and maintenance of one existing digital product, Student Hub – LSE’s bespoke student app – along with associated responsibilities supporting and empowering its student and staff end users. In addition, and of high priority, is a new “intranet portal” initiative to connect the LSE community and create a joined-up user experience across various back-end systems. The LSE Portal is in the initiation/discovery phase, and the Head of Product (maternity cover) will serve as project executive. You will be part of an existing cross-functional project team and lead on the vision and direction, as well as ensuring the necessary steps to deliver a successful business case and to move to implementation in the latter half of 2024 if approved.

Common strands through both Portal and Student Hub work include: looking comprehensively at how to support staff and student needs through our work; establishing internal credibility through reliable engagement, communication, and delivery; and developing our approach to creating successful digital products in the LSE environment that support the School’s 2030 strategic objectives. We aim to meet the needs and expectations of our users with digital products that enhance and streamline the organisational experience of being at LSE.

The required key skills & experience for the role include:

  • Experience leading major greenfield projects in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Building effective relationships and influencing without direct authority across a busy, decentralised organisation
  • Balancing advocating for your ideas and remaining open-minded to different or opposing views; discerning when and how to challenge assertively, yet being able to “disagree and commit”
  • Experience using a variety of frameworks and tools to uncover user needs, such as customer journey mapping, user story mapping, and jobs to be done
  • Conducting user research using continuous discovery practices and translating user needs into tangible outcomes
  • Leading and empowering cross-functional teams, creating a cohesive, motivating working culture through shared mission and goals

We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave, hybrid working, and excellent training and development opportunities.
