The Head of Student Development is an important role in the Business School. The role is being appointed to lead the delivery of an effective and professional student development team which includes both client and student facing team members. Our Student Development team is the largest such team in the College of Arts Humanities and Social Sciences working with faculty, professional services and businesses to deliver an excellent student experience to our UG and PGT students. This is a busy role in which you will be leading the team to deliver a range of activities including, for example, a large Employability Expo, coaching, mentoring, workshops, three different Edinburgh awards and an international programme for our students who come to study with us from over 70 countries world-wide.

Your skills and attributes for success:  

We are looking for individuals who like working in a vibrant fast-paced environment.

  • Professionally qualified/relevant degree plus, typically, a minimum of 4 years hands-on experience in a similar or related role or substantial vocational experience (typically a minimum of 10 years) demonstrating development through involvement in a series of progressively more demanding work/roles. 
  • Professional, confident self-starter, with in-depth experience of working in a business, public or third sector environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional relationship management skills and experience of dealing with key decision makers within companies up to Board level.
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to deliver reliably to time and to budget in an environment characterised by multiple and sometimes competing demands
  • Flexible attitude - able to think strategically, multi-task, plan ahead, set both team and individual priorities and deliver to deadlines.
