Liverpool John Moores University - Library Services

Location: Liverpool
Salary: £37,100 to £44,263 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 1st February 2024

Job Ref: 4598

Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is a distinctive, unique institution, rooted in the Liverpool City Region and with a global presence. Our students and staff, past, present, and future, are the beating heart of our city and can be found in every corner of every industry and community. We couldn’t exist anywhere else and have shaped the city in which we belong. Working with the people of Liverpool to improve lives and support communities is at the heart of why we were founded and why we exist today.

The University Library offers student-facing learning development support across a wide range of areas, including academic writing, academic integrity, critical thinking, note-taking, revision and exam strategies, information literacy, digital skills, maths, and statistics.

Tutors play a significant role in designing and teaching classes, workshops, and one-to-one sessions to support the diverse needs of students across the range of disciplines covered by the University. Academic Skills Tutors work with students from all departments and across a range of levels, to provide support in developing academic skills and assessment literacy.

As this role focuses on writing and learning, knowledge of academic writing conventions and learning styles, across a range of disciplines, is crucial. This includes knowledge of scientific writing. As you will advise on using technology for learning, proficiency in using educational technology and online learning platforms is essential. Awareness of the challenges faced by students and barriers to learning is also required, and you will have prior experience of academic skills development in a higher education context.

The role calls for excellent organisational and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide range of academic staff and students to support curriculum and learning needs. Experience in curriculum development would also be beneficial, while the ability to thrive in a busy teaching environment and willingness to work collegiately are critical to the role.

In return, we offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction, and development support as well as family-friendly policies.

This is an exciting time to join the university as we deliver the LJMU Strategy 2030 and its vision of LJMU as an inclusive civic university transforming lives and futures, by placing students at the heart of everything we do.

If you feel that this is the role you have been looking for and your skills and experience can make a real difference at LJMU, we look forward to hearing from you.

Informal queries may be directed to Casey Beaumont, Academic Achievement Manager (C.J.Beaumont@ljmu.ac.uk).
