MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK
The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) is a leading institute for biological research and the 4 research divisions work together as a close-knit community.
Through joining this community, we want to enable scientists of Black heritage, who are brimming with potential and passion for molecular biology and biomedical sciences, to grow their scientific experience. While the paucity of Black heritage scientists is evident across the UK’s higher education sector, the LMB is committed to playing its part to improve their representation and to provide role models for future generations of scientists.
We are looking to appoint two Black heritage Postdoctoral Scientists into our 3-year Rising Talent Fellowship. This training and development position is suitable if you have recently completed your doctoral studies, are due to complete within 6 months, or are an early career researcher. Working with our world-class scientists you will work in an Institute renowned for its excellent scientific facilities and high-quality research.
Fellows will be assigned to specific groups, and applicants are encouraged to speak to LMB Group Leaders to steer their application ensuring strong alignment with the LMB’s scientific programme. Once assigned to a group, you will help with the overall direction and remit of the project in discussion with the Group Leader, and you will make a significant input into determining the direction of the project within a three-year lifespan. There will be opportunities to present scientific work at seminars within the laboratory and at external meetings, draft scientific papers, and contribute to the overall preparation of research for publication.
There is some flexibility in working hours to accommodate personal circumstances. There is also provision for maternity, paternity or adoptive leave. Let us know if you have any requirements.
The LMB has a collaborative working culture and state-of-the-art building based on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. We have on-site parking, cycle enclosures and excellent public transport links to the site. We have a staff restaurant with roof terrace, on-site nursery, sports and social facilities. You will be eligible to join our defined benefit pension scheme with an employer contribution of 16%, holiday entitlement of 40.5 days (including bank holidays and privilege days) and a generous employee discount scheme. We are also committed to providing support for Fellows to move their career forward, including a generous training budget, mentoring from other LMB scientists and coaching available.
The LMB is a world-class research institute within UKRI, an entity that brings together nine research and innovation partners. More information can be found at www.ukri.org and www.mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk.
