Background

The Centre for Compressor Technology in the Department of Engineering, School of Science and Technology, City, University of London is recruiting for a Research Assistant on the project with Mayekawa. The project is related to research into rotor profiling, materials and tribology for compressors lubricated by oil, 3D CAD modelling and generation of drawings for modification of the existing oil free screw compressor and testing of developed concepts. The post is initially offered for three (3) years on 50% FTA with possibility to extend subject to exceptional track record of the candidate in research, publications and support in teaching and consultancy

Responsibilities

Work on Mayekawa project related to design and manufacture of a screw compressor with water injection and lubrication.

Undertake research in the field of rotor profiling, materials and tribology for non-oil injection in screw compressors.

Assist in preparation of research proposals.

Prepare and publish papers in high impact factor Journals and major Conferences.

Work as a member of the research team playing a full part in the research life of the University and the Centre for Compressor Technology.

Person Specification

The candidates would have either master’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering with industrial experience or be a PhD researcher in mechanical engineering.

Background in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics of rotating machines.

Demonstratable familiarity with use of CAD systems.

Capability to carry out advanced research in rotary positive displacement machines.

Experience in processing and presenting numerical and experimental data.

Good writing and presentation skills.

Interest in rotating positive displacement compressors.

Interest in work with students, research staff and industrial partners.
