Senior Postdoctoral Research Assistant - Structural analysis of HLA-E-peptide recognition by T cell receptors

University of Oxford - Oxford Centre for Immuno-Oncology

Location: Oxford
Salary: £45,585 to £54,395 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 7th February 2024
Closes: 6th March 2024
Job Ref: 170970

Do you have a keen interest in therapeutic or vaccination strategies that involve the targeting of peptide epitopes restricted by HLA-E? We have a new role working at the Oxford Centre for Immuno-Oncology, working on a project aiming to elucidate how peptides loaded onto HLA-E are recognised by low affinity T cells from a structural and biophysical perspective.

You will collaboratively work alongside an existing team to support new studies centred on HLA-E peptide binding biochemistry, as well as ensuring research is performed safely, legally and to the highest possible standards. You will also establish and maintain a good understanding of the research field by reading key reviews and research articles. Additionally, you will adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and protocols as necessary, testing hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources, refining as required.

It is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or Biophysics working on immune proteins such as T cell receptors and major histocompatibility complex (MHC) proteins. You will understand basic molecular biology techniques including PCR, cloning, mutagenesis and sequencing, as well as protein production using prokaryotic or eukaryotic expression platforms and purification using FPLC systems. In addition, you will have experience of structural analysis of proteins using either cryoEM and/or x-ray crystallography, and biophysical analysis of protein-protein interactions using Surface Plasmon Resonance and/or Microsale Thermophoresis systems. Experience or good working knowledge of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy would be highly desirable.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract until 31 August 2028 and is funded by the Wellcome Trust.

Only applications received before 12 midday on 6 March 2024 will be considered. Please quote 170970 on all correspondence.
