Background of department

The University’s School of Allied and Public Health Professions is the University’s academic and professional home for the Allied Health Professions, and for all those interested in improving public health and well-being. Our mission is to facilitate, educate and innovate to improve lives. We achieve this through our research, and by providing a portfolio of courses and other learning opportunities that are creative, inspirational and empowering, and which develop knowledge, policy and practice. Our partnerships with service providers across the health and social care systems are at the heart of sustaining excellent practice education for our aspiring Allied Health Professions. This post will provide the opportunity for an ambitious leader to shape the future of Allied Health Professional practice education in our region, working in partnership with service users, students, and service leaders.

We offer an exciting portfolio of applied healthcare courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels alongside internationally renowned applied research in implementation and diagnostic practice and policy. The School provides courses at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels for the Physiotherapy, Diagnostic Radiography, Medical Ultrasound, Clinical Reporting, Occupational Therapy, Paramedic Science, Social Work, Speech & Language Therapy, and Operating Department Practice professions. Uniquely, our courses pay special attention to sustainable practice, and the accreditation of our students’ leadership development. We also offer courses that reflect a Public Health perspective around health promotion, mental health and global public health. We have exciting plans for the growth of both our educational and research programmes and are keen to attract people who share our ambitions to make a difference. Our research work within the School focuses on the improvement of health and care services, health and well-being by co-producing solutions in close collaboration with service users and other stakeholders.

The Role

The School Director of Practice Learning will provide operational and strategic leadership for learning in practice and simulated practice learning across the School of Allied and Public Health Professions. The post holder will liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that students’ placements are planned, co-ordinated and evaluated in line with regulatory and University requirements. They will lead on practice learning and placement innovation to grow placement capacity and secure students’ success and positive learning experiences. The School Director will line manage practice-learning and relevant project staff, reporting to the Head of School. The School Director will join an ambitious School Executive Team  and be provided with a bespoke programme of leadership and academic development.
