About us

CAPE is seeking a Policy Engagement Networks Coordinator to coordinate, evaluate, and develop sustainability options for two networks initiated by CAPE: the Local and Regional Authorities Academic Advisor (LRAAA) network and the Policy Knowledge Brokers Forum (PKFB). The role will be hosted in the UCL Public Policy team within UCL Research, Innovation and Global Engagement and will work closely with the CAPE team and the Universities Policy Engagement Network (UPEN) to host and explore the sustainability of the networks post 2024.

The Universities Policy Engagement Network is a network of 120+ Universities and non-HEI policy organisations. UPEN primarily organises a weekly newsletter, an events series and coordinates work on key academic-policy engagement issues across six subcommittees. The aim of the network is to act as a relationship convenor and collaborator across the landscape to strengthen the evidence-policy ecosystem.

The Local and Regional Authorities Academic Advisers (LRAAA) network was a joint initiative set up by CAPE and the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) to strengthen academic policy engagement at the level of local and regional government. The network consisted of academic advisors and their policy hosts across England including but not limited to CAPE Policy Fellows. It was created with the purpose of sharing experience of advisers across different roles and context, exploring challenges faced by local and regional government in accessing academic expertise, and to understand the benefits of these roles at this level of government.

The Policy Knowledge Brokers Forum (PKBF) was an informal, practitioner-led network for those working in Government, Parliament and other public policy organisations at a national level across the UK, who act as knowledge brokers between policy organisations and universities. The network was developed as a forum for practitioners to share insights, lessons learnt, best practice, and challenges arising from engaging with the academic community.
