About us

UCL is one of the world's top universities based in the heart of London. It is a modern, outward-looking institution. UCL's staff and former students have included 29 Nobel prizewinners. It is a truly international community: more than one-third of our student body – more than 35,000 strong – come from 150 countries and nearly one-third of staff are from outside the UK.

UCL Physics and Astronomy is among the top departments in the UK for this subject area: UCL is consistently placed in the global top 20 across a wide range of university rankings – and is currently 8th in the QS World University Rankings 2020 and 4th in the UK for Physics and Astronomy.

The Department is committed to supporting excellence in both research and teaching and offers undergraduate BSc and MSci programmes in Physics, Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics as well as a number of Postgraduate Taught Masters courses.

About the role

Under the direction of the Departmental Manager/Education and Student Experience (EASE) Manager, and in conjunction with relevant academic staff, the postholder will provide administration to the department’s MSc teaching programmes. The role will provide support for all matters relating to the teaching and learning activities of students from enquiry to completion, incorporating supporting committees and processes relating to assessment, student and course records.

It should be noted that the role will work across all of the Undergraduate and Post Graduate Taught (MSc) programmes offered by the department but will have particular responsibility for the MSc programmes and timetabling.

This is a 12 month maternity cover post.

About you

The role holder must be efficient, organised and take great care in attention to detail. In addition, the role requires interaction with many people within and external to UCL thus a professional attitude, willingness to help and a positive outlook are required in order to adequately execute the duties outlined.

The post-holder must be educated to A level standard, or equivalent experience such as report writing. It is essential that you have experience of timetabling and administration in a teaching and learning environment.

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to prioritise and organise own workload, as part of the role you will also need the ability to work under pressure and deal with high volumes of processing. This will require planning effectively so that work is delivered and others are not delayed.
