The role

Oxford Brookes University is looking to recruit an experienced and highly motivated Commercial Operations Manager as a member of the Campus and Commercial Services Team.

This role encompasses the leadership, planning and development of the conference venue operations (Oxford Brookes Venues) and the day to day contract management of outsourced catering and retail services across all campuses. The role is responsible for developing a commercial and customer focused culture and identifying opportunities for new income streams and increased profitability for the University.

Working alongside colleagues across all areas of the university, the Commercial Operations manager will need to have effective collaboration skills and the proven ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

About the team

The University's Campus and Commercial Services team are a multi-disciplinary team based predominantly at our Headington campus providing services to visitors, students and staff across several sites. The Commercial Operations Manager will report to the Assistant Director Commercial Services and be responsible for the direct line management of a team of 5 people.

As Commercial Operations Manager, you will lead the overall management of the commercial hire of spaces and accommodation for meetings and events, including the management of the Oxford Brookes Venues team. Your areas of responsibility will also include high profile F&B services (external catering contracts and in-house bars) across our estate to meet both financial objectives and customer and stakeholder expectations.

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with internal stakeholders and external service providers and will drive and develop a commercial and customer focused culture, identifying opportunities for new income streams and increased profitability for the University.

What skills do I need

We are keen to hear from candidates who can demonstrate leadership qualities and commercial acumen. The successful candidate will also have:

  • Experience of managing service delivery for multi site conferences and events
  • Significant recent experience of developing and managing a related service of similar size and complexity
  • Experience of contract management for out-sourced services
  • Experience of setting and meeting financial targets
  • Experience of developing a customer focused culture and a commitment to quality
  • Experience of managing and motivating teams
  • A track record of working collaboratively and effectively with a wide range of stakeholders

About the location

Based at our Headington Campus, you’ll experience the vibrant campus atmosphere and benefit from our modern office environment. The campus is one mile from the center of Oxford and is served by regular public transport.

This role is a full-time permanent position, contracted on a 5 out of 7 basis. Flexible work patterns, including weekends, will be required and attending university wide events including Applicant Days, Arrivals Weekends, High Profile Events and similar. Hybrid working around the demands of the role will be supported.
