Job description

The Department of Culture, Media & Creative Industries (CMCI) seeks to hire a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Culture, Media & Creative Industries, specialising in interactive media (e.g. apps, AR/VR, immersive media, social media, digital games, etc.). This exciting new post will contribute to the excellent research profile of the Department while also engaging in teaching, leadership and pastoral support across our expanding portfolio of courses: including BA Culture, Media & Creative Industries; MA Arts & Cultural Management MA Cultural & Creative Industries; MA Digital Futures & MA Global Media Industries.

We seek applicants who can contribute to our goals of delivering innovative, inclusive, and socially-engaged education, and the ongoing diversification of our curriculum. Building on existing research and teaching strengths in the area, the new post will provide an exciting new point of reference for analysing the rapidly changing interactive media landscape.

CMCI is distinctive in its commitment to interdisciplinarity, and the position requires teaching across a broad range of areas. Indicatively, the post will contribute to team-teaching on core modules including: Media 1.0; Media 2.0 (L4); Global Media Industries: Perspectives & Approaches; Media Industries: Collaborative Project; Analysing the Cultural and Creative Industries (L7) and a range of UG and PGT optional modules. They will also supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Culture, Media & Creative Industries (or a closely related discipline), with an excellent knowledge and understanding of a field of expertise relating to interactive media. They will be a highly effective educator, with experience of both face-to-face and online teaching and assessment in Higher Education, a commitment to student learning and welfare, and an aptitude for working within an interdisciplinary framework. Leadership in academic administration and/or programme-level curriculum design would be expected at Senior Lecturer level.
