Biosciences is one of the world’s foremost centres for research and teaching in the biological sciences and one of the largest Divisions within UCL, undertaking a significant amount of research and teaching. The Division has a diverse portfolio addressing all areas of biology from protein interactions to cell function, organism development, genetics, population studies and the environment. Computational modelling approaches are frequently used alongside experimental research programmes and much of our research crosses traditional boundaries, including the relationship of biodiversity to the health of the planet. Activity is underpinned by high calibre science technology platforms and state of the art equipment. Educational activity includes a range of undergraduate programmes, an expanding number of Masters Programmes and a substantial number of postgraduate research students.

This is an exciting opportunity for two new Lecturers to join UCL in the Faculty of Life Sciences, which is one of the largest in UCL with over 900 staff and over 3,500 students and a diverse portfolio of research and teaching.

The Department of Neuroscience, Physiology and Pharmacology (NPP) is internationally-renowned for its fundamental research that incorporates cellular, molecular and systems-based studies of neurotransmitter receptors and ion channels, animal and brain physiology, neural networks, and associated signalling pathways.

We are seeking two outstanding candidates. Individuals with a strong track record in neuroscience, physiology and/or pharmacology are encouraged to apply, but we are particularly interested in applications from outstanding researchers in cellular and molecular areas of research to expand our expertise in these areas.

Teaching undergraduates and postgraduates in the fields of Neuroscience, Physiology and Pharmacology is an essential part of the post.

These appointments are subject to UCL Terms and Conditions of Service for Academic Staff. Please visit https://www.ucl.ac.uk/human-resources/policies/2021/jun/conditions-service-academic-staff for more information.

You must hold a PhD in neuroscience, physiology, pharmacology or a related field and should show a clear promise of research and teaching excellence in these disciplines and sufficient vision to build and maintain an internationally competitive research programme.

You are expected to attract funding from Research Council and Charity sources to support your research programme and develop your laboratory. If successful at obtaining funding, you will have access to a number of UCL externally-funded doctoral training schemes supporting PhD studentships.

You will be committed to lead interdisciplinary research in a multidisciplinary environment, have enthusiasm for teaching and the determination to make a positive impact as part of a wider UCL academic community.

As well as the exciting opportunities these roles present, we also offer some great benefits which can be found by here https://www.ucl.ac.uk/work-at-ucl/reward-and-benefits.

As London’s Global University, we know diversity fosters creativity and innovation, and we want our community to represent the diversity of the world’s talent. We are committed to equality of opportunity, to being fair and inclusive, and to being a place where we all belong.

We therefore particularly encourage applications from candidates who are likely to be underrepresented in UCL’s workforce.

These include people from Black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds; disabled people and LGBTQI+ people. Our department holds an Athena SWAN Silver award, in recognition of our commitment to advancing gender equality.
