About Us

Our Governance Services team is central to the delivery of our University’s strategic aims. As a Governance Services Officer you will contribute to the provision of high-quality governance support services to the University. This will include a comprehensive and professional service to the Governance Services Manager, Governors of the University, University Executive Board, University Leadership Group and other external stakeholders.

You’ll play an important role in the delivery of an outstanding corporate governance service under the guidance of the Governance Services Manager (“GSM”).   Key responsibilities include the planning of committees’ work, drawing up agendas and work plans, collating papers, compiling and publishing committee board packs, maintaining actions lists, ensuring colleagues are informed and reminded of their actions and paper deadlines on a timely basis and assisting with the organisation of strategy days and other events.

Your Impact

We are seeking applications from candidates who are able to work effectively in a demanding and busy work environment, to statutory governance deadlines in a professional and competent manner.

Your skills and experience

  • Proven experience of working in the governance and compliance arena and servicing committees and groups.
  • Extensive experience of producing professional standard minutes and reports.
  • Agenda setting and minute writing.
  • Experience of assisting with the organisation of external events such as strategy days and other similar occasions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Attention to detail including proof reading skills and the ability to maintain high levels of accuracy.
  • Experience of proactively managing a diverse workload with the ability to meet deadlines, effectively manage own time, prioritise, and react swiftly to changes. Experience of providing administrative support at a senior level in a large and complex organisation.

What you can expect from us

We offer a supportive and inclusive culture and team-based approach to governance services, with significant collaboration with colleagues at the University and externally. This is a busy and diverse role, that will enable you to become embedded in the excellent work that the University of Derby does both for our students and our broader communities.

Benefits

As well as competitive pay scales, we offer generous holiday entitlement. We also offer opportunities for further salary progression based on performance, and the opportunity to join a contributory pension scheme.
