The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) Strategic Change Programme is a newly formed strategic programme at the University of Nottingham, comprising a suite of projects and workstreams spanning physical and digital infrastructure, people and culture, student experience and research performance, focussed on the delivery of improvements in student outcomes and satisfaction, research outputs, and staff engagement, enabling the delivery of the vision and ambition of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences for the next 30 years.

 We are looking to appoint a Finance Manager to support in the development of financial analysis to support the Faculty of Medicine and Health Science’s strategy – this will include investment appraisal and development of the financial business case, financial management through business case implementation and post implementation review. The key work to be undertaken is:

  • Development of business case for the approval of a new medical course and associated delivery resource and infrastructure. Through this new medical course, we are looking to invest in modern teaching practices and modern technologies (including virtual reality) to give our students amongst the best educational experience in the country.
  • Development of business cases for future new courses / course expansion, including development of a new sports science and medicine offering and a new biomedical sciences course
  • Development of the infrastructure business case to support the future strategy of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. This is currently expected to be amongst the largest single investments in the University’s history. The business case will include development of a number of different infrastructure options (including new build and refurbish) and a commercial infrastructure strategy.

The successful candidate will be a pro-active finance professional with a passion for understanding the numbers and the ability to build relationships and influence at all levels. A determination to take action and follow through on recommendations will also be important. Experience of business case preparation and options appraisal is essential. The role will report into Finance and be aligned to the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences for at least the next 2 years. It will move on to support another strategic initiative thereafter as the University continually invests in its future.
