Research Assistant (Fixed term)

Location: Jubilee Campus 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant to join our vibrant and multidisciplinary team at NIHR MindTech MedTech Co-operative, based at Jubilee Campus, The University of Nottingham. The role holder will work across multiple research projects, including on the ORBIT project. The ORBIT (Online Remote Behavioural Interventions for Tics) project is exploring how best to develop ORBIT as a clinical service within the NHS to enable more children with tic disorders to access evidence-based treatment. The role will be to undertake supervised research for this NIHR-funded project, led from the University of Nottingham. 

The role holder’s primary responsibility will be to work with the co-Chief Investigator and co-investigators supporting the project and an external software development partner to help develop the content of the intervention, using appropriate editing software. They will support in developing the ethics application for the project. This will include creating information sheets and adverts, supporting in writing the protocol and helping submit for NHS REC and HRA approval. The role holder will support in setting up the trial master file and writing reports to the trial sponsor and attending and contributing to meetings. They will also help support with patient and public involvement activities and thus may work very closely with children and adolescents with tic disorders and their families. 

You must hold a degree or equivalent in Psychology or Health Sciences and have experience of research methodologies and techniques, as well as excellent interpersonal skills. You will have the ability to build relationships and collaborate with others (internally and externally). Experience of research with adolescents accessing Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) would be desirable. This role would be ideally suited for a person wishing to pursue a PhD or doctorate in clinical psychology.    

This role will involve some contact with young people and their families and therefore the post holder will be required to obtain satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), in line with the University’s code of research conduct and research ethics.

This position is offered on a fixed-term contract until 31st March 2025. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours); however, applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 21.75 hours per week). Please specify in your application if you wish to work part time and the number of preferred hours. Arrangements for job share may also be considered.
