The role
Applications are invited for a Research Fellow position to join a research team working on an NIHR-funded project entitled: ‘The impact of interactive electronic devices: understanding the mechanisms of benefits and harms on young children’s development, behaviour and health outcomes using a multimethod approach’ (NIHR 159040), which has been funded for four years.
You will be an ambitious postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in both quantitative and qualitative research and prior experience working with children. In this role, you will work on all three work packages (WP) that the project consists of.
In WP1, you will support all stages of the systematic review, including protocol development, search strategy, screening, data extraction, quality assessment and data synthesis.
In WP2, supported by another Research Fellow, you will be responsible for recruiting, collecting and analysing data from young children recruited from nurseries and childminders. Data collection will involve child development, health, behaviour and educational outcomes.
Lastly, in WP3, also supported by another Research Fellow, you will work on an ethnographic study, where we will use videography to capture young children's IED use and interactions with family. You will also carry out interviews with parents and carers and support data analysis using inductive thematic analysis.
Throughout the project, you’ll be given opportunities for external training, in addition to publishing in prestigious publications, creating policy briefs, and presenting the research findings at national and international conferences.
Some travel will be required for data collection.
The team
You will be based at Sheffield Hallam University - Collegiate Campus, and will be supervised by Prof. Liane Azevedo. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of academics from public health, epidemiology, and social science backgrounds.
You will also collaborate with community and government stakeholders and other Research Fellows employed in due course.
The project is based at the Physical Activity, Wellness and Public Health Research Group, which is one of the Research Groups from Sport and Physical Activity Research Centre, part of the Sheffield Hallam University Health Research Institute.
