The role

The NIHR have awarded funding to the University of Bristol and the Severn Deanery to support an NIHR Clinical Lecturer (CL) post in the theme of Multiple Long Term Conditions in the GMC specialties of General Practice or Geriatric Medicine to taken up by 31st May 2024 at the latest. This post provides an excellent opportunity for a General Practitioner or Geriatric Medicine trainee with outstanding potential, to develop a successful academic career within a thriving and supportive environment. The post holder will become an integral member of either the Centre for Academic Primary Care, working with Associate Professor Rachel Johnson (Research | Centre for Academic Primary Care | University of Bristol) (General Practice) or the Ageing and Movement Disorders Research Group working with Associate Professor Emily Henderson (Geriatric Medicine).

What will you be doing?

The lectureship programme will provide up to four years post-doctoral training to allow the successful applicant to begin to establish themselves as an independent researcher. The post is available either full time or part time; the maximum duration of the post is up to 4 years full time equivalent but to be completed by a maximum duration of 6 years. The objectives of this clinical lectureship are to: · provide the opportunity to develop a substantial and coherent post-doctoral programme of research and to publish from their doctorate · to consolidate clinical competence and experience as a general practitioner or geriatrician, and (FOR applicants in Geriatric Medicine) to achieve a CCT. · to gain more experience in education in a variety of contexts · to prepare one or more high-quality applications for either new research or a post-doctoral or clinician scientist research fellowship. Research is the main focus of this post. The intention is that the successful applicant will consolidate the experience they gained during their doctorate and develop a research programme leading to an application for a post-doctoral research fellowship. The successful applicant will split their working week between clinical practice (GP) or clinical training in the Severn Deanery (Geriatric Medicine) and academic work at the University of Bristol. Within the sessions at the University, the main activity will be research, although the post-holder may also make a contribution to teaching.

You should apply if

You are a GMC registered GP (with MRCGP) who has completed training, or geriatric medicine trainee (with MRCP). You have completed, or submitted a higher degree (PhD or MD or equivalent) which will be awarded by the time of taking up the post. You have excellent academic and leadership potential, and have published in peer-reviewed journals.
