About the role

Are you an experienced epidemiologist or modeller with a passion for global health? We are seeking a Research Associate in malaria modelling to join Imperial College London’s MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis. You will use quantitative modelling and data analysis to support national malaria programmes and global health partners in making strategic, evidence-based decisions, particularly as they face increasing budget constraints, evolving transmission patterns, and the need to adapt or scale back interventions while protecting hard-won gains.

What you would be doing

In this role, you will:

  • Use malaria transmission models and epidemiological data to address urgent questions about intervention prioritisation, cost-effectiveness, and the future of malaria control.
  • Collaborate with national malaria control programmes and global institutions such as WHO and the Global Fund to produce policy-relevant analyses tailored to country needs.
  • Support strategic planning in a changing global health landscape, including the implications of reduced funding, downscaled interventions, and the risk of resurgence. You will help quantify the potential impact of these shifts and identify adaptive approaches that sustain progress.
  • Develop and apply reproducible analytical pipelines in R, contribute to high-impact publications, and present your work at international meetings.
  • Help shape the next generation of malaria control strategies in a context of constrained resources and increasing country ownership.
What we are looking for

We are looking for someone with:

  • A PhD (or equivalent experience) in epidemiology, mathematical modelling, or a closely related quantitative discipline.
  • Strong skills in statistical inference and coding in R.
  • Experience analysing epidemiological or infectious disease data.
  • A collaborative mindset, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work across disciplines.
  • (Desirable) Familiarity with malaria epidemiology, Bayesian methods, or international research collaboration.
What we can offer you
  • The opportunity to work at a world-leading institution at the forefront of infectious disease modelling and global health policy.
  • A collaborative, diverse and highly skilled research environment within the Malaria Modelling group and the wider MRC Centre.
  • Opportunities to contribute to real-world impact through partnerships with national and international health agencies.
  • The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution and be part of our mission to continue science for humanity.
  • Grow your career: gain access to Imperial’s sector-leading dedicated career support for researchers as well as opportunities for promotion and progression.
  • Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 39 days off a year and generous pension schemes).
  • Be part of a diverse, inclusive and collaborative work culture with various staff networks and resources to support your personal and professional wellbeing.
Further information

The post will be within the Medical Research Council (MRC) Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis, an international hub for research, policy support, and capacity building in infectious disease modelling.

This role is for a full-time and fixed-term contract for 12 months in the first instance.
