The Role

As Teaching Fellow in Aerospace Engineering, you will support delivering students with the attributes and technical skills to work in the emerging aerospace engineering market. The industry is moving towards a Net Zero future through design of Ultra-efficient, Zero-carbon emission aircraft technologies utilising cross-cutting enabling technologies and infrastructure. 

You will undertake teaching and course co-ordination at HE Levels 4-7, delivering and supporting modules within our aerospace engineering degrees and provide teaching in core fundamentals and technical applications such as computational and practical applications.

Based within the College of Engineering, Environment and Science you will work closely with colleagues to enrich the student experience, ensuring relevant aspects of research, enterprise and professional context are embedded in modules and courses.

Duties include:

  • Teach on modules and courses at HE levels 4-7 including curation, adaptation and creation of module teaching materials, delivering a variety of student learning sessions and supporting students through informal and formal communication.
  • Assessment, marking and providing student feedback, liaising and coordinating with academic support services and student coaches to ensure appropriate support for students.
  • To take on specific course management roles as agreed and act as module leaders where required, including the development of required supporting material.

This post is teaching centred and would suit candidates from either academic or industrial backgrounds. We actively encourage candidates to apply that hold a pilot, drone operator license, experience with simulation or management certificates.

Qualifications Required

  • Master’s degree in an appropriate subject or Honours Degree with appropriate professional qualification/membership
  • A teaching qualification or willingness to acquire one if not already held
  • PhD or active membership of an appropriate professional body is advantageous

Our Successful Candidate

You will have experience of teaching at HE levels 4-7 in Aerospace Engineering with the development and demonstration of best practice in teaching, learning and assessment.

Enthusiastic, self-motivated, you will have experience in the development and enhancement of an ‘active learning’ pedagogy and experience within one of the following three subject teaching domains:

Electrical: Aircraft and Spacecraft Systems, Control Systems, Electrical, Avionic and Sensor Systems, System Design MIL/SIL/HIL, Programming, Communications, Navigation, Image processing, Unmanned Air Vehicles, Electrical Powertrain and Infrastructure Requirements.

Aerodynamics: Aircraft/Aircraft Systems/Spacecraft Design and including Performance and Flight Dynamics specifically the domain of Aerodynamics, Thermofluids and Propulsion Systems. Subsonic, Supersonic and Hypersonic Flow Regimes testing experimentally and Simulation.

Management: Project/ Program Management, Aircraft/Aircraft System Design and Maintenance Repair and Overhaul. Power plants, Rotary Wing Systems, Electrical and Mechanical inc. Composites/Structures, Hydraulics and Pneumatics. Flight Control, Fuel, Environmental and Emergency Systems.  Software, simulations and practice.
