The Department of Women’s and Children’s Health at the University of Liverpool, along with the Experimental Arthritis Treatment Centre for Children (EATC4Children), are pleased to invite applications for a Biostatistician/Health Data Scientist. The successful candidate will be integral to the cSLE-T2T-GLOBAL study, an international collaborative study aimed at improving outcomes for Childhood-onset Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (cSLE) through innovative Treat-to-Target (T2T) strategies. CSLE-T2T-GLOBAL is supported by two major international rheumatology research foundations (FOREUM in Europe and Rheumatology Research Foundation in North America) and in partnership with two leading international rheumatology societies (Paediatric Rheumatology European Society, PReS and Childhood Arthritis Rheumatology Research Alliance, CARRA) and numerous international cSLE registries.

Your primary responsibility will be to manage and analyse a comprehensive dataset of approximately 3,000 cSLE patients. This data will help shape paediatric-specific T2T endpoints and facilitate the development of personalized treatment strategies. You will apply advanced statistical and machine learning methods, and your findings will influence global cSLE treatment protocols. Within the vibrant research environment of the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health in Liverpool and the EATC4Children at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, you will benefit from a culture that nurtures the development of young researchers.

You will have a Masters or Doctoral degree in Biostatistics, Health Data Science, or a closely related field. Applicants should possess a robust background in statistical methodologies, and if appointed at Grade 7, an understanding of machine learning applications in healthcare research would be advantageous. Proficiency in statistical programming, preferably in R or Python, and experience with large datasets are essential. You will be keen to work within a multidisciplinary team and have a passion for improving healthcare outcomes.

If appointed at Grade 6 you will have a MSc in Biostatistics or Health Data Science (or related discipline with substantial component of Health Data Science). At Grade 7 you will have a PhD in Health Data Science (or related discipline with substantial component of Health Data Science). Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30.  Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.

The post is full-time (part-time available on request) and is available for 18 months from July 2024 (negotiable).
