Role Profile

We welcome candidates with research and/or teaching expertise in any field of law but consideration will be given to the fit between prospective candidates’ research and existing research strengths in the School including European Law, Criminal Law and Policing, International Human Rights Law and Socio-legal Research. The School also has particular teaching needs in the area of private law and would welcome candidates with experience in that area in either teaching or research.

The School is committed to high quality research, expects its staff to publish regularly in leading journals and with leading university presses and supports its staff in such work.

Duties and Responsibilities

Research and Scholarship

The successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Publish articles in leading peer-review journals and/or books with high-profile publishers;
  • Develop and support research initiatives, including within the framework of the existing areas of research excellence in the School,
  • Apply for external funding

  Teaching and Learning

The successful candidates will be required to contribute to the development, teaching, assessment, and administration of our modules across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes:

  • To include the design and delivery of modules on the School’s suite of undergraduate programmes,
  • The design and delivery of other interdisciplinary modules, where appropriate,
  • Supporting and evaluating students on placement visits and writing reports,
  • Contributing to the design, development, and management of future programmes and other developments in the field of law,
  • Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate theses.

Service and Contribution to University and Society

The post holders will have a role in:

  • Contributing to the organisation of research and policy events
  • Engaging with the policy-makers and the media,
  • Participating in school and university meetings,
  • Developing relationships with stakeholders within and outside the University.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A PhD in Law
  • Experience in teaching at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level in a University setting
  • A track record of high-level publications commensurate with career stage.

Essential Training

 The postholder will be required to undertake the following essential compliance training: Orientation, Health & Safety, Data Protection (GDPR) and all Cyber Security Awareness Training.  Other training may need to be undertaken when required.

Salary Scales:

Assistant Professor (Lecturer Above Bar): €60,847 - €97,512.

* Appointment will be made in line with current Government pay policy.
