The opportunity:

We are looking for Senior Financial Analyst with the ability to assist in the preparation of management accounts, financial forecasts and a keen understanding of delivering financial analysis to support decision-making by senior leaders across an organisation to ensure that financial information is accurate and prepared on a timely basis.

This role will work flexibly between Accommodation, Catering & Events (ACE) and Estates.

Accommodation, Catering and Events (formerly Accommodation Services) provides catered and self-catered residential accommodation for over 10,500 students, including community and welfare support through its Residence Life service. We also operate 21 cafes and a range of other catering products to students and staff across the University estate. Under our commercial brand, The University of Edinburgh Hospitality and Events Collection, we deliver hotel accommodation options to around 200,000 guests each year plus an extensive selection of conference, catering and event services to over 2,000 events.

The Estates Department is responsible for developing and maintaining one the largest departments at the University of Edinburgh with a staff cohort of 1,000 individuals working across 5 campuses, within 20 separate functions and 65% of its building are listed. We work closely with senior management teams providing strategic insight, analysis and advice to deliver sustainable financial performance aligned with the University’s 2030 Strategy. 

In this role, you will be supporting two key areas of our business by:

  • Preparing journals and management accounts 
  • Creating financial analysis and management information for both strategic and operational purposes, financial planning, budgeting and forecasting
  • Checking and reconciling financial data to ensure it is accurate and processed according to University policy and procedures
  • Supporting understanding of financial policy and procedure by liaising with staff across the Business areas

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • HNC/HND or equivalent level qualification in a relevant discipline plus relevant experience or broad experience acquired through on the job training and considerable on-the-job experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of finance policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of regulations and standards
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
