We are a world class research-intensive university. We deliver teaching and learning of the highest quality. We play a leading role in economic, social and cultural development of the North East of England. Attracting and retaining high-calibre people is fundamental to our continued success.
Salary:
Research Assistant: £31,396 to £32,982 per annum
Research Associate: £33,966 to £36,024 per annum
The Role
We are seeking a Research Associate in statistics to the 3-year Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council funded project PINCODE: Pooling INference and Combining Distributions Exactly: A Bayesian Approach. The Bayesian fusion problem, pooling inference on sub-posteriors, has attracted substantial attention recently in a number of important data science contexts, such as large data settings, privacy settings, meta-analysis and multiple expert elicitation. PINCODE aims to address the challenges in such pooling inference, with implementing either exact or asymptotically exact Monte Carlo algorithms. The project is a collaboration among Department of Statistics at University of Warwick, Department of Mathematical Sciences at Durham University, and School of Mathematics, Statistics & Physics at Newcastle University.
The role comprises the development of R packages for Bayesian computational pooling inference.
This is a full time hours (37 per week) position, with a fixed duration of three years, up until the project end date of 30.06.2027
To apply, please complete an online application and upload a CV and a cover letter. Your cover letter is a supporting statement, and you should outline how you meet the essential criteria of the role and evidence this with examples.
