Strategic Programmes and Change Team – The SPC Team

Imperial is globally recognized for its leading education and research, supported by essential professional services. The Operations and Infrastructure Committee oversees transformational changes, delivering top-tier infrastructure and services.

The SPC Team works under the committee to implements the College's strategy across Portfolio, Service Design, and Change. Operating in a matrix model, they allocate resources based on the Committee's priorities, collaborating with faculty and professional services.

Imperial is expanding its impact with a new 20-acre campus in White City, West London. This significant investment will unite world-class researchers, educators, businesses, and academic partners to transform cutting-edge research and education into societal benefits.

Responsibilities

This role in the portfolio team focuses on planning, prioritization, and delivering a roadmap to align programs and projects with strategic objectives and benefits. The team works to:

  • Provide a complete picture of the College’s investment in strategic programmes so that:
    • activity can be prioritised across professional services ensuring objectives are met
    • Closely monitor programmes to make sure they stay aligned with strategic objectives and deliver intended benefits to enable effective decision making
    • the overall complement of programme or project resources and the business end-user availability are aligned as effectively as possible
    • the impact of programmes and projects on business-as-usual work can be prioritised and managed
  • Delivering a project management office (PMO) resource across the whole programme lifecycle from initial business case to implementation working as a blended team with faculties and professional services
  • Retaining a rapid response capability to support programmes (not identified as a strategic programme).

As a member of the Portfolio Team, the post holder will work on various College projects, supporting senior colleagues, ensuring robust governance, and reporting to project boards. Responsibilities include leading projects and workstreams, supporting the Programme Director, and ensuring efficient project management from inception to completion, meeting briefs, budget control, and quality delivery. Proficiency in agile and waterfall methodologies is required.

Essential

  • Agile and/or PRINCE2 qualified with a detailed understanding of project life cycles and project management tools.
  • Excellent standard of numeracy, literacy, and communication skills.
  • Experience of project administration and project lifecycles.
  • Experience of working with and in project teams.
  • Ability to identify the work required and organise, facilitate or perform the work.
  • Experience of utilising project management tools in a major corporate, HEI or Government organisation.
  • Experience of working with a broad range of stakeholders across a range of projects.
  • Project planning and proficiency in MS Office applications, including MS Project.
  • Knowledge of project administration and project lifecycles.
  • Data gathering and analysis alongside drawing out the key insights.
  • Risk management.
  • Good interpersonal and organisational skills. Ability to negotiate, motivate, influence, persuade and build relationships in a diplomatic and enthusiastic way.
  • Excellent spoken and written skills. Ability to communicate effectively and clearly to both technical and academic staff.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple varied activities.
  • Excellent analytical skills, structured and methodical approach, highly organised.

The 2 successful candidates will divide their time between White City and South Kensington campuses as needed and be in office 2 days a week.
