Hours: Full Time, Part Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 4th June 2024
Closes: 19th June 2024
Job Ref: 431396

Start date: As soon as possible.
Fixed term: 2 months.

A short-term post-doctoral research fellow position (2 months full-time, but part-time working may also be available) is available in the MacNeill lab in the Biomedical Sciences Research Complex to conduct research on a Leverhulme Trust-funded project entitled “Why do T5-like bacteriophages encode a split DNA ligase?”

The primary duties of this short-term post will be to complete the characterisation of a collection of genome-engineered T5 bacteriophages at the molecular level and to explore the impact of the introduced changes on the phage infection cycle, as well as engineer further phages, to address the central question posed by the grant application.

The successful applicant will have a PhD (or will have recently submitted their thesis), ideally in molecular microbiology or a related discipline. Prior experience of working with bacteriophages would be advantageous but is not essential.

The post is available from 1 July 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Informal enquiries, requests for further information and details of how to apply can be obtained from Dr Stuart MacNeill (sam31@st-andrews.ac.uk).

The project is a collaboration with Dr Julia Richardson (University of Edinburgh). Details of research in the MacNeill and Richardson labs can be found at https://macneill.wp.st-andrews.ac.uk and https://richardson.bio.ed.ac.uk respectively.
