About the Role

Applications are invited for a motivated and committed Machine Learning Engineer. The successful candidate will contribute to Queen Mary’s national reputation for research by planning and managing innovative projects as well as providing expert advice to other members of the William Harvey Research Institute. The holder will work on a new EU Horizon 2023 funded project: Next Generation tools for genome-centric multimodal data integration in personalised cardiovascular medicine (NextGen). NextGen involves 21 organisations across ten different countries in a large-scale and ambitious effort to apply cutting edge personalised medicine approaches to improving the health of cardiovascular patients in Europe.

About You

The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent in experience and post graduate degree, or equivalent experience, in a biological or computational science. A key aspect will be the development of federated approaches to analysis, particular machine learning approaches.

About the Team

Professor Smedley’s group aim to unravel the genetic causes of human disease, in particular utilising genomics and other omic data as well as patient phenotypes. With collaborators in the Monarch Initiative, IMPC and MorPhic consortiums, his team produces new software to help diagnose rare disease patient through genomic sequencing and discover new disease genes through integrated analysis of human disease phenotypes alongside model organism data. There is a strong translational drive in the team, e.g., the Exomiser software framework developed in his team is now used in many large-scale disease sequencing studies such as NHS England’s 100,000 Genomes Project and Genomic Medicine Service.
