About the role
A position for a research assistant is available in the Neurogenesis and Brain Cancer group led by Prof. Simona Parrinello. The main objective of the post will be to develop a human novel model of therapy resistance in glioblastoma, the most common and aggressive form of brain cancer in adults.
The post-holder will develop primary organotypic slice culture models alongside a molecular profiling panel for Cytof analysis. They will also be expected to assist other members of the group in a variety of experimental techniques and to contribute to the organisation and smooth running of the group.
The post starts on October 1st 2024 and is funded until 30th September 2026 in the first instance.
Salary for this position is on grade 6B £37,332 - £39,980 per annum including London Allowance.
About you
Successful candidate must have BSc in a biological or biomedical subject (at least 2:1) or equivalent experience, sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques in subject area.
Experience with histological techniques (tissue sectioning, paraffin-embedding, staining, etc.) and microscopy is essential, as is general laboratory experience and standard laboratory techniques, including western blotting, qPCR.
The candidate should have knowledge of maintaining laboratory stocks and carrying general lab duties. They should also have the ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures without deviation.
Home office personal license modules 1-4 is desirable.
