Applications are invited for an appointment as a permanent Lecturer (1.0 FTE, Contract Type B) in Italian at the University of Galway.
For this post, we are seeking a colleague who will contribute to enhancing and developing our school’s teaching and research. The appointed lecturer will contribute to undergraduate programmes in Italian (both language and culture courses) and will bring a research specialism in the area of transnational encounters with a focus on transnational Italy, migration, intercultural encounters, modern fiction on migration, race and travel.
Candidates should have strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively engage with students, colleagues, and community partners.
At the University of Galway, Italian is offered as part of the Arts degree, Global Languages, Commerce degree, and staff teach on other denominated undergraduate programmes (e.g. Children Studies). Italian also offers an MA in Translation Studies, a structured PhD, an Online Diploma in Italian, and an Evening Diploma in Italian.

About the School
The School of Languages, Literatures & Cultures consists of six disciplines: Classics, French, Gaeilge/Irish, German, Italian, Spanish. With 45 FTE members of staff and c. 850 students, it is one of the larger Schools in the College of Arts, Social Sciences & Celtic Studies. The School is home to a suite of highly successful BA and MA degrees that both draw on the strengths of the individual disciplines and allow for a wide variety of further subject combinations across the College. Research expertise is particularly prevalent in the interdisciplinary areas of Translation Studies and Transnational Exchange, with sector-leading projects funded by the European and Irish Research Councils currently underway
