About the role:

The Martin-Sancho lab is seeking a talented and motivated postdoctoral researcher to dissect virus-host interactions that influence the outcome of dengue virus infection. The position is funded by Wellcome Trust and aims to characterize antiviral proteins that constitute the frontline defence to dengue infection, as well as to define their impact on pathogenesis and interspecies transmission.

What you would be doing:

The project will leverage a wide array of experimental approaches including molecular virology, functional screening (siRNA and CRISPR), biochemistry and gene expression assays. Experiments will be conducted in CL2 and CL3 laboratory settings and will also include work with zika and West Nile viruses. This role is an excellent opportunity to utilize cutting-edge techniques in virology and cell biology to unravel mechanisms of viral disease and inform therapeutic development.

You will join the laboratory of Dr. Laura Martin-Sancho at Imperial College London (https://profiles.imperial.ac.uk/laura.martin-sancho). This is a fun and highly collaborative new laboratory that applies systems biology (including functional genetic screening, proteomics, and transcriptomics) to unravel critical virus-host conflicts and mechanisms of viral disease. You will be immersed into the lab’s vast collaborative network that includes partners in the US, France, Vietnam, and Singapore. In addition, your career development activities will be supported thanks to Wellcome Trust funds.

What we are looking for:

The ideal applicant is creative, motivated, and has excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. You will be expected to drive the project and perform the highest quality research under the guidance of Dr. Martin-Sancho, as well as helping supervise and train other researchers in the lab.

You must have:

  • A PhD in virology
  • Expertise with virus infections in CL2 conditions
  • Expertise with molecular biology, molecular virology and biochemistry techniques, including cloning, western blotting and immunofluorescence
  • Experience with cell culture of mammalian cells
  • Evidence of making significant scientific contributions in the field of virology, including scientific publication and/or presentations at conferences
  • Excellent critical and analytical thinking skills
  • Able to independently design and execute experiments, interpret data and identify follow-up strategies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interface with the team and collaborators
  • To have a highly motivated and detailed oriented approach

What we can offer you:

This position will be full-time for an initial two years, with funding available for a possible further four years depending on the project progress

The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution

Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 39 days off a year)
