Applications are invited for the above post focused on leadership in software engineering and sustainable software development, to drive a FAIR and energetically efficient computational research program impacting major research infrastructures for particle physics, astronomy and beyond.
The role is varied and interesting and you will be working in an engaging and supportive interdisciplinary environment that will help you develop as an individual while allowing you to be productive and use your abilities to develop excellent software within the European-funded EVERSE project (https://everse.software). You will be one of the leading actors deploying and disseminating best practices of software excellence among other researchers who code in all European Science Clusters. You will do so by profiling and improving selected particle physics software pilots in terms of FAIR principles and energetic sustainability, as well as by benchmarking and choosing the most suitable hardware platform.
Candidates will require a good BSc (Hons) or MPhys (or equivalent) in either a computing or scientific subject with a preference for computer science, physics and astronomy (or equivalent experience). They must demonstrate evidence of leadership on a variety of software systems, excellent software development skills in different programming languages (C++ and Python at minimum) and on different computing architectures beyond CPUs, experience of the entire software life cycle on several projects, use of development best practices (e.g., version control, release management), set-up of systems for workflow testing and deployment in production, and experience on multiple software and computing projects. They must have excellent communication and presentation skills given that the role takes place within a large international collaborative environment and includes training of others at different levels.
