The role: We are seeking to appoint a Provenance Research Curator to join the V&A Research Institute, National Art Library and Archives team. The postholder will take responsibility for the leadership and coordination of provenance research across the V&A. They will carry out their own provenance research projects, advise and guide V&A staff in provenance research and documentation, and support staff in prioritising research on the most critical parts of the collection. They may organise or contribute to events, support and supervise postgraduate students, and represent the V&A with external bodies and stakeholders.
The postholder will build on provenance research undertaken since 2017 on the Gilbert Collection (supported by The Gilbert Trust for the Arts) and across the V&A’s collections since 2021, supported by The Polonsky Foundation. They will coordinate ongoing provenance research initiatives and continue to develop the V&A's role as a national hub for provenance research relating to art and design collections. During this next phase, the postholder will work with closely with the collections and staff of the National Art Library and Archives as well as with the V&A’s object collections.
Supported by The Polonsky Foundation, this is a 12 month post in the first instance, while we develop long-term plans to continue our work in provenance research.
