About the Role
The role of the Rheumatology Clinical Research Fellow is to provide medical support for the portfolio of commercial and academic rheumatology research studies, including regulated clinical trials (CTIMPs), being undertaken at Mile End Hospital. The post-holder will aid in the identification and recruitment of patients and will perform trial visits and assessments as per trial protocols. The post-holder will also have the opportunity to learn MSK ultrasound techniques and train in performing ultrasound guided synovial biopsies.
About You
This is an outstanding opportunity to gain experience working in one of the leading centres worldwide in biopsy-driven clinical trials in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It will provide training in clinical trials and translational medicine as well as more general rheumatology training. It would suit someone who wishes to gain experience in clinical trials, and/or an individual considering a career in rheumatology wishing to obtain more exposure to the specialty in an exciting and stimulating academic environment, with the opportunity to develop research skills and clinical experience in rheumatology.
About the School/Department/Institute/Project
The Centre is linked to the NIHR Barts Biomedical Research Centre which was successfully awarded £28 million in funding in 2022. It is one of the leading centres worldwide in biopsy-driven clinical trials in RA, having in recent years completed two of the first stratified, biopsy-driven, multicentre, randomised controlled trials in RA; R4RA, the results of which were published in and Nature Medicine, and the STRAP trial (pending publication). Mile End Hospital is also the primary recruiter to the PEAC/PEsAC Study, which has provided an extensively phenotyped cohort of patients with inflammatory arthritis linked to detailed pathobiological data since 2008, paving the road for precision medicine trials in inflammatory arthritis.
