About the role
Reporting to the General Counsel, the Legal Counsel provides expert advice to colleagues across the University on a broad range of contractual, legal and administrative matters. A focus of the role involves the drafting, negotiation and review of contracts that span the full range of business activity, including: educational partnerships in the UK, international educational partnerships, commercial contracts, consultancy, and ad-hoc agreements and contracts as required.
The postholder will support the General Counsel with the delivery of a proactive and responsive approach to the provision of legal advice across all aspects of University business.
About the Department
The Governance and Legal Services Directorate comprises expert teams in governance, compliance, policy, casework and legal, working with a common purpose to protect the University’s interests whilst enabling innovation and the achievement of the University’s objectives. The Directorate works collaboratively across the university community to develop awareness of university policy and regulations, legal issues and external compliance. The Legal Counsel will play a key role in the team through the application of legal and contractual knowledge for effective risk management, providing legal advice to a diverse range of stakeholders.
