The Student Learning Services team is seeking an Assistant Peer Learning Specialist to provide a range of support to students leading peer learning initiatives and administrative support within the team. This is a multifaceted, student facing support role, which would suit an early career professional with ambitions to work in academic support within the Higher Education context. The student cohorts we support are diverse and as such we particularly welcome applicants from under-represented groups, such as BAME/BIPOC and LGBT+

You will be joining Student Learning Services, a team situated within the Library and Academic Development directorate. Under the direction of the Student Learning Manager and Peer Learning Specialist, you will contribute to the further development of peer learning networks and support provision, at a University with an enviable record in teaching and supporting learning for all students.  The University of Plymouth provides highly regarded and innovative Student Learning Services, including the Peer Assisted Learning Scheme (PALS) and the Writing Cafe. Peer Learning programmes also contribute to the delivery of University strategic objectives, particularly around Access and Participation Plan interventions. 

Tasks will include front line contact with staff and students, responding to their queries covering a range of peer learning activities.  Working closely with the Peer Learning Specialist, you will assist in maintaining student records, programme documentation and supporting the smooth running of PALS networks and the Writing Café using a variety of IT packages. This role requires a flexible attitude in a continually evolving environment, with good team working and organisational skills, IT skills, the ability to identify and seek resolutions to problems and to work within deadlines. Good communication skills are essential. Experience of peer learning schemes in a higher education setting and an interest in supporting people in the educational context is desirable.

This is a full-time (37 hours pw) permanent position with flexible working options.

Remote working is available up to 2 days a week.
