We are looking for an enthusiastic counsellor with a passion for working with students.
You will deliver student-centred, short term, focussed counselling to students focussed on the here and now. In this role, you will support students to navigate distress, life stressors and emotional experiences that may impact their ability to achieve their potential through 1:1 counselling, and group work.
Individual counselling is core to the work of the service and an ability to effectively manage a substantial caseload is a key requirement. A significant part of the role involves the provision of assessment appointments (counselling consultations).
You will contribute to the delivery of a range of psychoeducation workshops and development of self-help resources available to all students.
The counselling team sits within the wider wellbeing service and the role will work positively with other colleagues in the service in a collegiate way making good teamworking skills essential to this role.
You will be predominantly based at the Counselling Centre located on University Park but may be asked to work at other locations on University Park and our other Nottingham campuses.
You will need to be fully trained in counselling to diploma level and be accredited with a recognised professional body or working towards accreditation as defined by the BACP or equivalent (UKCP, BPS).
A good understanding of issues which impact on student wellbeing and the ability to demonstrate a commitment to inclusive practice are essential.
We value diversity and are particularly keen to receive applications from males who are currently underrepresented in our Counselling Service.
This role is available on a permanent basis. Hours of work are part-time (21.75 hours).
This role’s core hours are 09.00-17.15 with some evening work occasional weekend required.
Flexible working arrangements will be considered in line with the University of Nottingham’s Flexible Working Arrangements Policy. Staff in the wellbeing service are required to work on site for a minimum of 80% of their working week.
At the University of Nottingham, we are committed to providing generous employment packages whilst supporting the well-being of our staff to help them reach their full potential. As a University employee, you will have an excellent choice of benefits and rewards, including access to fitness and health facilities, staff discounts and travel schemes, along with 30 days' holiday allowance and a highly attractive pension scheme.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Eleanor Turner (Head of Specialist Wellbeing Services – Counselling and Mental Health) email eleanor.turner@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
