The role
We are seeking an outstanding consultant clinical academic to join our multidisciplinary team integrating dementia clinical practice with cutting-edge research in Alzheimer’s diagnostics and treatment, with a particular interest in the intersection between neurodegenerative disease and sleep. This unique combined academic-clinical role offers the chance to lead innovative research while contributing to the clinical excellence of our dementia services in Bristol and Devon.
University of Bristol is internationally recognised for its research in dementia and sleep clinical neuroscience, North Bristol NHS Trust is at the forefront of biomarker-led dementia diagnostics and Brain Health Services and Devon Partnership Trust is nationally renowned for excellence in post-diagnostic care. Our facilities include a state-of-the-art clinical research facility, MRI imaging and sleep suites and nationally leading cognitive disorders and brain health clinics. You’ll be joining a collaborative team that spans neurology, neuropsychology, old-age psychiatry, dementia clinical and research nurses, speech and language therapy, dedicated patient and public involvement expertise, health psychologist, graduate students, research associates and excellence in data science within the medical school.
What will you be doing?
The post-holder will develop an independent research programme within the ReMemBr group, a multidisciplinary group focussed on early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s and reducing the risk of future dementia through interventions that improve sleep. The post-holder will contribute to and lead grant applications, high-impact publications, local, national and international cross-disciplinary collaborations to strategically develop clinical dementia research within the University of Bristol, alongside teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as supervision of PhD and masters students. Clinically, the post-holder will deliver a cognitive clinic and commercial trial work in North Bristol NHS Trust and a memory clinic (remote) in Devon Partnership Trust's OPMH (Older Person's Mental Health) directorate.
You should apply if
Applicants should have GMC registration with a licence to practice and inclusion on the Specialist Register (or eligibility within 6 months) for neurology or old age psychiatry, have a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant field and a strong research track record in dementia and/or sleep clinical neuroscience, particularly real-world monitoring through wearable devices. Applicants should have demonstrated ability to secure external funding, have experience in postgraduate teaching and clinical expertise in cognitive disorders.
Ideally applicants would have experience with fluid biomarkers for Alzheimer’s diagnosis, neuroimaging, digital biomarkers, have a track record in public engagement, policy translation and postgraduate supervision.
