Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract

About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Research Technician to join Prof Daniel Davis’s lab in Imperial College London, South Kensington. This is a full-time post funded by the Medical Research Council.

The research program involves the use of super-resolution microscopy to compare the organisation of activating, co-stimulatory and inhibitory receptors with an aim to establish how changes in cell surface organisation impacts thresholds at which immune responses are switched on or off which may then lead to novel approaches in treating cancer/auto-immune diseases.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly skilled multidisciplinary team studying immune cell biology in health and disease. The role will be to provide technical support for a range of research activity including maintaining smooth running of the lab including ordering reagents, liaising with collaborators and partners, isolating specific types of immune cells from peripheral blood samples, performing experiments in immune cell biology, running/troubleshooting experiments, the maintenance, the use and teaching of research associated equipment and other associated duties commensurate with the grade. Some experience in human immune cell biology research is strongly preferred.

What you would be doing:

You will be working as part of a team of postdocs and students. The overarching project involves using microscopy to image signal transduction and integration from activating and inhibitory receptors on human immune cells. This will be compared in settings of health and disease. The post involves a high degree of teamwork and interdisciplinary research as well as daily interactions with other members of the lab, other allied scientists within Imperial College and elsewhere, as appropriate.

What we are looking for:

Experience with human immune cell biology (and/or high-level microscopy) is strongly desired. You must have excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as basic knowledge of immunology, cell biology or microscopy. You must also be able to develop and apply new concepts, work with minimal supervision and have a creative approach to problem-solving. The ideal candidate will have the passion and drive to tackle and overcome scientific problems and have superb organisational skills. You would also be keen to help supervise Masters and undergraduate project students.

What we can offer you:

  • The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution and be part of our mission to use science for humanity.
  • Benefit from a sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 39 days’ annual leave and generous pension schemes).
  • Access to a range of workplace benefits including a flexible working policy from day one, generous family leave packages, on-site leisure facilities and cycle-to-work scheme.
  • Interest-free season ticket loan schemes for travel.
  • Be part of a diverse, inclusive and collaborative work culture with various staff networks and resources to support your personal and professional wellbeing.
