We are looking to hire a postgraduate researcher, with legal-technical expertise, to work on the Horizon EUROPE projects UPCAST and DATAPACT led by Dr George Konstantinidis. The post will be based at the University of Southampton, UK. You will be working with Dr George Konstantinidis, a team of postdocs and students, and more than 40 Research, Small to Medium Enterprises (SME), Government and Industry organisations from across Europe.
Horizon EUROPE projects UPCAST and DATAPACT aim at designing and deploying compliant-by-design algorithms for data marketplaces and data sharing platforms, to collaboratively negotiate and enforce data sharing contracts automatically, ensuring privacy, confidentiality and legislation compliance.
As part of the role, you will assess privacy tools and policy languages, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, privacy preferences, custom company policies, and complex contractual agreements. You will inform the development of a consent management system. You will analyse data sharing and processing agreements in natural language and help translate to and from machine-processable policy languages such as Open Digital Rights Language (ODRL). You will help map the projects processes and dataflows to relevant legislation and drive compliance adjustments as necessary.

Ideally the basic undergraduate studies should be on (EU) law, holding an LLM, with an additional MSc or PhD on information technology, or computer science. The successful applicant should demonstrate substantial professional experience in companies or universities, preferably as a personal data / privacy specialist, Data Protection Officer, or Ethics Advisor. Knowledge of Data Privacy Law, GDPR, AI Act, Data Governance Act and Contract Law is highly desirable. On the technological side, knowledge of Semantic Web and Knowledge Graphs technologies is a major advantage.
