Post Summary:

The School of Nursing & Midwifery is seeking to recruit an Assistant Professor in Mental Health Nursing to contribute to teaching, research and administrative activities in this field. The successful candidate will have a developing profile in mental health nursing education and research and will support the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. This position arises in response to the continued growth and development of the mental health nursing discipline within the School, reflecting a strategic commitment to expanding capacity, enhancing expertise, and building on Trinity College Dublin’s leadership in mental health nursing education and research.

The School has commenced its Strategic Plan 2023–2030, Transforming Healthcare and Creating a Better Future for All, which sets out a vision to deliver world-leading educational programmes that prepare nursing, midwifery, and other health professionals to address current needs and shape the future of healthcare nationally and internationally. The School of Nursing and Midwifery at Trinity College Dublin has achieved substantial success and is nationally and internationally recognised as a leading contributor in the field of mental health nursing. The discipline of mental health nursing is a pivotal force in meeting the extant and changing requirements of service users across the lifespan, and in the development of robust evidence and its translation into policy and mental health nursing practice. The post of Assistant Professor in Mental Health Nursing arises from the intent to capacity build and strengthen and advance the School’s leading position in meeting the related requirements of mental health care in contemporary society.

Qualifications Required:

  • PhD degree or working towards completion of a PhD degree (Desirable).
  • M.Sc. or equivalent in Mental Health Nursing or in a relevant related field where an applicant does not have a PhD. Plans to imminently commence a PhD (Essential).
  • Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) or for overseas candidates, the ability to register with NMBI as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (Essential).
  • Registered, or eligible to register on the Nurse Tutor’s division with the NMBI or hold an
  • equivalent teaching and learning qualification (Desirable).
  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in Mental Health Nursing (Desirable).
  • Experience in working in Mental Health practice (Essential).

Post status: 5 Year Fixed Term, Tenure Track Contract

Salary: This appointment will be made on the Lecturer Full Salary Scale (€42,500 - €101,541 per annum) at a point in line with current Government pay policy.
