About The Role
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering is recruiting a Senior Project Officer to lead the international research collaboration project REACH-PSM, advancing the manufacture of perovskite solar module in Africa.
The Senior Project Officer is expected to lead a small project team with a high level of direction from a project director or senior manager at the university. The Senior Project Officer is responsible for applying the following independently in situations of limited complexity
Key Responsibilities (full list in Job Description):
Working closely with the Swansea REACH team and Project Director the RSPO will be responsible for the following.
- Promoting the wider public good in all actions, acting in a morally, legally and socially appropriate manner in dealings with stakeholders and members of the project team and the University. This includes ensuring compliance with UKRI and ODA funding regulations, and supporting the ethical and sustainable delivery of the REACH-PSM project’s objectives across academic, industrial, and community contexts.
- Identifying, addressing and resolving differences between individuals and/or interest groups involved in the project. The REACH Senior Project Officer (RSPO) will coordinate interdisciplinary teams from Swansea University and international partner institutions, supporting collaboration and resolving challenges in joint working across cultural and institutional boundaries.
- Determining the best means of satisfying requirements within the context of project objectives and constraints, i.e. developing solutions. The RSPO will maintain a comprehensive project work plan and adapt approaches to ensure the delivery of milestones, deliverables, and stakeholder expectations.
- Preparing and maintaining schedules for project activities and events, taking account of dependencies and resource requirements. This includes managing timelines for research tasks, stakeholder engagement events, consortium meetings, and reporting cycles in line with UKRI funding frameworks.
- Developing, implementing and updating resource allocation plans needed for the project, taking account of availabilities and scheduling. The RSPO will coordinate staffing and financial resources, ensuring alignment with work package responsibilities across UK and international teams.
- Developing and agreeing the budget for the project and controlling forecast and actual costs against this budget. The RPM will work closely with Swansea finance teams to track expenditures, prepare financial reports, and ensure that project funds are allocated and used appropriately.
- Identifying and monitoring project risks, planning and implementing responses to them and responding to other issues that affect the project. This includes managing risks related to international collaboration, regulatory compliance, and logistical constraints while ensuring health, safety, and environmental standards are upheld.
Welsh Language Skills
The Welsh language level required for this role is Level 1 - A little. The role holder will be able to pronounce Welsh words, answer the phone in Welsh (good morning/afternoon) and use very basic everyday words and phrases (thank you, please etc.). Level 1 can be reached by completing a 1 hour course.
