The Faculty of Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics is seeking a fixed-term Departmental Lecturer to assume teaching, research and examining responsibilities for three years.
The scope of the role reflects the Faculty’s differing needs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. At the undergraduate level, the ability to offer teaching in linguistics related to French is essential, and the ability to offer teaching in other areas, including other Romance languages (e.g., Spanish, Italian) is desirable. At the graduate level, the ability to offer Masters-level teaching and supervision in one or more areas supplementing existing departmental strengths is essential.
Areas where interest frequently exceed available supervision capacity include, but are not limited to: sociolinguistics, phonology, computation, and morphology. The duties of the role include giving lectures, classes, and tutorials in multiple areas of linguistics, including French linguistics; supervising Master’s students; participating in university examining; carrying out research to underpin teaching; and cooperating in the administrative work of the Faculty of Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics.
The post is tenable for 3 years from 1 October 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter and is non-renewable.
Applicants should upload a covering letter/supporting statement, CV, up to two publications, and the details of two referees, who will be contacted if the applicant is shortlisted.
The closing date for applications is Friday May 30th, by 12:00 noon UK time.
Interviews will take place in the week of June 23rd.
