About The Role

This is a Fixed Term position until March 2026 working full-time.

The Population Data Science department is a cutting edge research centre specialising in secure linked data analysis of health data sources. We are looking for a talented individual with a legal background to join to our team to help foster new and innovative research projects; who has a passion for innovation and developing technology and who enjoys the challenge of problem solving in a supportive team environment.

This is a new role and the post holder will help the department develop its legal capacity and equip us with the skills we need to grow our services. We are looking for an individual who can help support the work of the Legal Team ensuring legality and compliance of operations and managing the needs of the department and external stakeholders. The post holder will play an important role assisting in: the drafting of legal agreements, administrative duties and conducting innovative legal research in the areas of data protection legislation; a natural interest in new and emerging areas of data protection law for example AI, machine learning would be considered a benefit.

Experience of working within a legal environment, supporting legal professionals, preferably within a University or public sector environment. A background knowledge of the law / legal student would be desirable. Experience of working to deadlines, with the ability to collate and communicate (orally and in writing) relevant information in a succinct manner and the ability to maintain databases / document management systems or similar would be an advantage. Experience of drafting contracts/legal documents or data sharing agreements would similarly be considered a benefit. Required: high attention to detail, good organisational skills and the ability to complete assigned tasks effectively and promptly, be a team player and demonstrate initiative.

Welsh Language Skills

The Welsh language level required for this role is Level 1 - A little. The role holder will be able to pronounce Welsh words, answer the phone in Welsh (good morning/afternoon) and use very basic everyday words and phrases (thank you, please etc.). Level 1 can be reached by completing a 1 hour course.
