About the role
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join the Control Engineering group at the Department of Engineering Science (central Oxford). The position is funded by EPSRC and is fixed term for up to 36 months with a start date on or before 1st October 2025.
This post will involve developing analysis and control methods for systems described by PDEs, with applications in flow control, in collaboration with researchers at the Arizona State University. The position would suit a theoretician with a strong control engineering or mathematical background. The successful candidate will benefit from the international collaboration and will become part of the growing and flourishing inter-disciplinary control group at the University of Oxford.
About you
You should have a good first degree in Engineering or Mathematics with specialization in control systems and have completed or be about to complete a doctorate in Control Theory/Dynamical Systems or a highly relevant subject in Mathematics. A good publication record commensurate with your stage of career is expected, as well as experience in teaching at undergraduate or graduate level. You must have the organisational skills and initiative to carry out independent research; be able to work as part of an interdisciplinary team; and have the written and verbal skills necessary to present scientific ideas clearly. Experience in developing mathematical algorithms and simulations in MATLAB, in particular with Semidefinite Programming and Sum of Squares and of the analysis and design of feedback control systems using these approaches, is essential.
How to apply
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online via our e-recruitment system and should include the covering letter/supporting statement (describing how you meet the criteria), a CV, and names of two academic references.
The position is a full-time fixed term post available for 36 months.
The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Friday 13 June 2025.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Antonis Papachristodoulou antonis@eng.ox.ac.uk
