Specialty Technician
The Novel and Compound facility Glass part of the Zepler Cleanrooms at the University of Southampton is creating the next generation of advanced materials for optical, photonic and electronic applications.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant team working to develop lithium doped glass fibre materials for use in solid state batteries (SSB) alongside our industrial partners, Morgan Advanced Materials Ltd. Through close partnership with our industrial collaborator, the knowledge created will find immediate application in state-of-the-art battery prototypes. You will be based at the University of Southampton, a research-led institution ranked in the top 1% of world universities. The project will take place within the renowned Optoelectronics Research Centre, with strong industrial connections, where many optical fibre technologies were first developed. Our cleanroom facilities provide access to advanced research and technologies, for which you will be given full training and support from the rest of the team, enabling strong career advancement opportunities through the university culture which is focused on the development of people while providing excellent working standards. You will also have the opportunity to attend Research Technical Professional training events. Proven experience in a laboratory setting and being able to demonstrate planning and progress of work is essential.
A degree in a science related subject or equivalent industry experience is required. Basic knowledge on material synthesis and glass fabrication processes are desirable. The post will be for 9 AM to 5 PM work with 35 hours per week. This position offers an excellent opportunity for learning, contributing to the advancement of the field.
