Research Assistant - Immersive Radiotherapy Immobilisation (0.4 FTE) - Grade 6

University of Liverpool – Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (HLS) - Institute of Population Health - School of AHPs and Nursing

You will support a NIHR funded research project investigating the feasibility of using a novel virtual reality-based patient immobilisation system during radiotherapy to head and neck cancers.

This development aims to reduce feelings of anxiety among patients during their daily treatment. The project is being conducted by the Radiotherapy Department of the Institute of Population Health and the School of Engineering, and this post is available as part of an NIHR “Research for Patient Benefit” grant held by Dr. Pete Bridge. The aims of this project are to develop and evaluate a novel patient immobilisation system which is capable of delivering immersive virtual reality to the user while keeping them still in a reproducible position.

The post will require you to work alongside project staff from the School of Engineering during the development and testing of the prototype. It will also require you to work with the principal investigator during the user testing phase to recruit volunteers, gather data from them and analyse findings to identify the impact of the device on anxiety and the effectiveness of the device. You will also need to support other activities within the project as required by the principal investigator. This project should result in improved treatment experience for patients; especially those who suffer from anxiety.

You should have experience of quantitative and qualitative research methods and a first degree with a strong clinical focus.

The post is part-time (0.4 FTE) and fixed-term, available for 15 months.

Unfortunately, this role is not eligible for sponsorship under the skilled worker route, you will therefore need to demonstrate your own right to work in the UK.
