The Faculty of Linguistics, Philology, and Phonetics is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate to carry out research on the acquisition of French syntax, as part of Prof. Sam Wolfe’s project ‘Growing Grammar’.

About the Role
The project, run in collaboration with Prof. Adriana Belletti (Siena) and Prof. Luigi Rizzi (Collège de France), seeks to investigate the acquisition of French from a cartographic perspective, employing the Growing Trees model developed by Friedmann, Belletti, and Rizzi, and understand the links between maturational accounts of acquisition and the stability of morphosyntactic properties diachronically, with particular reference to French. Acquisitional data will be extracted from digitised corpora and analysed by the Postdoctoral Research Associate.
The post is full-time and is funded by a John Fell Oxford University Press grant awarded to Professor Wolfe. The post will be held for a fixed term of one year, starting on 1st October 2025.
About You
The postholder will be an organised and self-motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate that will contribute to the ‘Growing Grammar’ Project, under the direction of Prof. Sam Wolfe.
It is essential to have a first degree in Linguistics, Modern Languages, Psychology, or a related discipline, possess or be very close to obtaining a PhD in Linguistics or a related field, and have the ability to manage own research and administrative duties with good verbal and written communication skills in English, and be able to represent the project within and outside of the University.
