Opportunity Overview

We are seeking a motivated and capable Technician Manager to provide management and leadership to one of our four technical teams in the School of Science Engineering and Environment. The successful candidate will support one of our Human and Natural Science teams, which will include Chemistry and Wildlife, Geography and Biology areas of speciality amongst others. 

We are particularly interested to hear from candidates with knowledge and experience of managing and leading a team. As well as those that have gained an understanding of day to day workings of laboratories as well as the application of health and safety in a laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Allocating routine tasks and/or project work, providing direction and guidance as necessary in line with peoples skills and abilities
  • Identify the communication and relationship needs of the Cockcroft team 1. Facilitating open communication and discussion between people acting as a sign point of contact by developing, maintaining and working to people engagement strategies and plans
  • Providing advice, assistance and coaching associated with the planning, design and improvement of Cockcroft team 1 services and component availability.
  • Plan and conduct formal audits of complex projects, major programmes in relation to equipment facilities in the Cockcroft building

About the School or Department 

The School of Science, Engineering and Environment (SEE) is a centre of discovery and innovation. With a broad portfolio across computer sciences, engineering, built environment and human and natural sciences, we are one of the largest schools within the University, home to over 6000 students and over 370 colleagues.

This role will align to the technical service team with in SEE. There are four technical teams comprising over 60 technicians. They support a variety of programs from civil engineering to computer science and biomedicine.

Will lead our Cockcroft 1 team who comprise chemistry, wildlife, geography and biology technicians.
